DIY Bubble bath

Here’s a recipe you’ll want to keep close for the best yet simplest way to make your very own natural and silky smooth bubble bath.

The basic ingredient is Decyl glucoside which is a plant-based surfactant made from sugar and coconut oil. Considered as a foaming agent, it is used to create washing products that are ultimately extremely soft (shampoos, milks, body soap etc.)

Recipe Bubble bath for the whole family:

Quantity: 250 ml

Ingredients:

230ml of Decyl Glucoside

20ml of plant-based oil (almond, jojoba, apricot seed, macadamia etc.)

2ml (50 drops) of essential oils

Amber bottle with pump

Steps:

  1. Add all ingredients to the 250ml bottle
  2. Shake well before using.

This product can be kept for up to a year.

Have fun with the essential oils, create a blend to set the tone of bath time.

Please note: As a natural and homemade recipe, the bubbles may not last as long as a commercial bubble bath. :)

Add a layer of homemade body butter when getting out of the tub to hydrate your skin deeply.

DIY bain moussant

Simplified recipe

Add 3 to 4 drops of essential oils of your choice into 1 tablespoon of Decyl Glucoside, then run under the bath water. Add 2 more tablespoons of Decyl Glucoside for the extra bubbles.

Here are a few suggestions:

True Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia: soothing & calming

Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus radiata:  spa vibes

Ravintsara , Cinnamomum camphora cineoliferum: comforting

Ho Wood, ct. Linalol Cinnamomum camphora: perfect for children, soft tones

Sweet orange (zest), Citrus sinensis: calming & happy

Please note the essential oils are not miscible in water. They must be mixed with an appropriate excipient such as a plant based oils, foaming agent or neutral soaps etc. *While these essential oils suggestions are safe for younger kids, they should not be used when pregnant.

If you don’t have Decyl glucoside at home, here are two alternatives! Castille soap, or any neutral unscented shower gel. These ingredients will also create a nice bubble bath, simple add one table spoon and voilà!

Go ahead and add Epsom salts, dead sea salts or dried flower petals (calendula, Damas roses, camomile etc.) for that extra relaxation feeling at home.

Happy relaxation time !

Please note: Decyl glucoside will most likely stiffen up in time when left out at room temperature. All you’ll have to do is dunk the bottle in hot water to liquify again.
