We believe the bathroom is one of the easiest rooms of the house to switch sustainably (we have already talked about our eco-friendly essentials here) and if you add local options in your products used well, then it’s even better! Here are our top 5 personal favourites, we both use these in our homes, and it was hard to narrow down to only 5, there are so many good ones out there!
1- Rose citron toothpaste
Toothpaste containers/tubes are not very eco-friendly; let’s be honest about it. When we started on this eco-friendly venture and made our own, which tasted and felt gross, we didn’t know what to do until we found Rose Citron!! It’s available in bulk in many different grocery stores and pharmacies.
We’re slipping an easy one here with Quebec made bamboo toothbrush. The best combo for a clean smile and a low ecological impact!
2- Soap bar from the Savonnerie des Diligences
We absolutely adore the Savonnerie des Diligences, both for the exceptional values of its wonderful owner Marie-Ève as well as for their wild soap storylines. All soaps are handmade right here in Estrie, and smell amazing. We use the Mère-Grande soap for the whole family, and the Madame Blancheville is a must in the laundry room for all stain removals on clothes (but more on that in a laundry room blog article here)
3- BKIND Shampoo & conditioner
We’ve searched for THE best shampoo bar for such a long time, and it’s the BKIND brand that truly nails it! It smells lovely and leaves your hair feeling super soft! We really enjoy it!
Ps: Rinsing your hair with a mix of 1L of water & 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar once in a while will also make your hair extra soft and glossy.
4- Mélia hand balm
While I always used our body butter to remedy dry hands due to changing seasons, I have to say that I’ve really fallen in love with the Mélia hand balm. Miels d’Anicets makes these products, and after discovering them, I had to have some. (Yup, we also sometimes make impulse buys!) Its scent is just out of this world (Neroli & Ylang-Ylang), and the ingredients are certified organic and contain honey, which helps heal your skin.

5- Oneka Cedar & Sage Hand soap
While we’ll only be presenting their hand soap, it should be said that all their products are phenomenal. Made with local, organic plants, this soap will transport your senses to a spa day. There’s a little luxurious feeling when you wash your hands with it, and since we’re all doing so often now, it’s an excellent advantage!
It’s also offered in bulk in many zero-waste grocery stores.
And since we couldn’t stop at just 5 items, here’s an extra we use with our little ones.
6- Magic stick from La Souris Verte
Made with Arnica, which is almost literally magic, this stick will make all the ouchies disappear! Rub it on as soon as there’s a little booboo or a bruise, and it will help heal quickly. It’s also a great trick to soothe insect bites; we do believe there’s a bit of magic in there!
